Hiking For Beginners

 

Hiking is a great activity because you get to head out away from the city and enjoy nature. Hiking in the mountains, across the plains, or through the woods allows you to explore new places and see new things. You can bring a camera with you to catch wildlife in their natural environments, or you can also hike for exercise or even to lose weight. So, with that in mind let us get into hiking for beginners.

The Basics

When you begin hiking you should consider how much can you hike without exceeding your physical limits. You may be able to start hiking a mile at a time, and then work your way up to hiking for five miles or more. So, with that in mind, you can determine how much hiking gear you will need to carry. You will need to wear the proper clothing for the conditions that you will be hiking in. Wear comfortable hiking shoes or boots, and wear a hat to avoid sunburn. You should carry a backpack with the essential items that you will need for your hiking adventure.

 

Now that you have you gear and clothing picked out, you’ll need to determine where are you going go? There are many locations that have hiking trails. You may have trails in your city that you can use. If you prefer to get out of the city to do your hiking, you may go to a state or national park which frequently have several hiking trails to choose from. Most bookstores have guidebooks that can help you find a few trails that you can try out. There are thousands of trails out there, so pick one and get started.

Hazards

What are some of the hazards of hiking? There are many hazards on the hiking trail. You could encounter good weather or it could turn colder suddenly, or you could get rained on. In some areas, you may encounter snakes or dangerous animals. You may have to battle insects on your hike. You may encounter waterfalls, cliffs, or rivers. Suppose you slip on a rock, and fall in the river. As you can see, there are many hazards on the hiking trail. The most important thing is to be prepared for the unexpected so you can protect yourself and avoid injury.
